Admission Guide
High school students can enter the Department of Oceanography through Special Talent Admission (Hai-Na-Bai-Chuan Program), Star Program Recommendation, Application Admission, or University Examination Placement.

◎ Applicants who have graduated from (or are expected to graduate from) a public or registered private senior high school or vocational school in Taiwan or abroad, or who meet the qualifications specified in the Ministry of Education's Standards for Recognition of Equivalent Educational Levels for University Admission Article 2. ◎ Applicants must meet one of the following talent selection criteria and be able to provide supporting documentation: (1) Those who have demonstrated outstanding performance in various marine natural science competitions, contests, or exhibitions and can provide proof. (2) Those with unique interest in marine natural sciences, or possess special talents or distinctive potential related to marine natural science research, and can provide relevant supporting materials such as instrument operation experience or diving certification. |

3. Department of Oceanography Special Talent Admission Committee Composition: One faculty member each from Marine Biology, Marine Chemistry and Geology, and Physical Oceanography, for a total of three faculty members serving as reviewers and interviewers. The scoring items and ratios are as follows. Interview candidates are selected based on document review scores, and the interview candidate list will be announced on the Department of Oceanography website three days before the examination date.

4. Additional Notes: The English proficiency test typically involves the candidate's self-introduction in English and on-site reading comprehension of a short English passage. The admission committee will ask questions about the passage for the candidate to answer. Other testing methods are determined by the admission committee on-site.

In addition to comprehensive teaching courses, our department emphasizes the training of marine science professionals. 2. Field practice at sea is a required course and involves boarding research vessels for sample collection and observation. Students must be able to operate instruments with both hands, stand for extended periods, and have adequate visual function to observe and identify images. These courses involve certain risks, and for safety purposes, students must be able to move away from dangerous situations immediately. 3. Candidates should check the website; no additional notification will be sent. English testing will be conducted during the interview. 2. Candidates who need to adjust their interview time should contact the department by phone between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM on May 8, 2025 (Thursday) and May 9, 2025 (Friday). Requests after this period will not be accepted. 3. 1. Considering the student's demonstrated learning interest in mathematics or natural sciences, this will be evaluated through "Course Records" and "Learning Portfolio Statement" along with the student's self-directed learning outcomes and level of development and engagement. 2. Considering whether the student can plan progress toward learning goals and implement them carefully, and can reflect and improve when expected goals are not achieved, the student's learning outcomes and development motivation will be evaluated through "Learning Portfolio Statement," including: (1) High school learning reflection should address self-reflection on learning planning and implementation outcomes and propose improvement plans; (2) Motivation for study should explain the student's personal background, interests, abilities, experiences, and performance; whether they align with the department's mission and requirements; (3) Future learning plan and career planning should show how the student's career planning aligns with department goals, presenting motivation in the learning portfolio statement, explaining reasons for choosing related courses and learning reflections, without overemphasizing credit hours or course difficulty grades. |

Considering whether the student has genuine language ability and foundational capabilities, as well as critical thinking skills and knowledge related to our department. This is evaluated through course learning outcomes, diverse performance and language ability, demonstrating learning interest through "Course Learning Outcomes," "Diverse Performance," and "Course Records" to assess student learning outcomes and diverse performance or competition experience. Learning outcomes should include motivation, process, reflections, emphasizing quality over quantity. Including: (1) Language domain "Course Records" should demonstrate the student's language learning outcomes. (2) Course reports and practical work should provide personal natural science and language course learning outcomes and diverse performance or competition experience proof.
